The Call of the Fire

The call of the fire comes to us through the shadows
That follows the close of the day.
Its flames bring us peace and the calmness of spirit
That drives all our troubles away.
We are thankful for days and the joy that they bring us
And night and the rest that it brings.
May we go on believing in this joy we're receiving
Just now round the fire as we sing.

There is Nothing I Love Better Than Singing Around a Campfire.

My love of music is because I was a Camp Fire Girl.

This Law of the Camp Fire I will strive to follow.

Some of my fondest memories are of summer Friday nights at camp. There was always a “Wishing Fire” … each camper would find a stick that day to add to the fire. One by one they would make a wish (out loud or silently) and then add their stick to the fire. As the fire burned bright we would start to sing.

TELL ME WHY

Tell me why the stars do shine
Tell me why the ivy twines
Tell me why the sky's so blue
Then I will tell you just why I love you

Because God made the stars to shine
Because God made the ivy twine
Because God made the sky so blue
Because God made you, that's why I love you

I really think that God above
Created you for me to love
And picked you out from all the rest
Because God made you, I love you the best

WITCHCRAFT

If there were witchcraft,
I'd make two wishes
A winding road that beckons me to roam.
And then I'd wish for a blazing campfire
To welcome me when I'm returning home.

But in this real world, there is no witchcraft
And golden wishes do not grow on trees.
Our fondest daydreams must be the magic
To bring us back these happy memories
Memories that linger, constant and true
Memories we cherish, campers, friends, of you.

CANOE SONG

Across the silver'd lake
The moonlight ripples break,
Their path a magic highway seems.
We'll send our good canoe
Along that highway too,
And follow where the moonlight gleams.

Oh, good fairies all
Harken to our call
Come and follow there with us
Across the silver'd lake

Across the silver'd lake … Across the silver'd lake

A few counselors would come to the shore of the lake in canoes singing as they paddled. Candles were set to float on the surface of the lake, one by one forming a path out towards the middle of the water. It was ...
